A Civil Society Organisation known as Malawi Black Economic Empowerment Movement (MABLEM) has weighed in its view on a decision by the High Court’s Commercial Division to freeze the bank accounts of Salima Sugar without an inter-parte hearing.
The Court ordered the freezing of the company’s bank accounts because of its outstanding disputes with former managers.
MABLEM Chairperson, Robert Mkwezalamba, believes the disputes with the former managers from India could be resolved without halting the operations of the sugar company by freezing its accounts.
He has since appealed to the office of the Attorney General to consider lifting the freeze order, which he claims ‘was granted suspiciously’.
Salima Sugar Executive Chairman, Wester Kosamu, has meanwhile told MBC that the company’s lawyers have moved in to vacate the freeze order.
Kosamu was however uncertain on how long it may take before the issue is resolved.
