Malawi Judiciary has officially launched the financial crimes division in Lilongwe.
The division which focuses on financial and economic crimes seeks to expedite trial of the financial and economic cases and ensure justice.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo said the launch signifies government’s commitment to the fight against financial and corruption cases.
Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda said financial crimes and corruption cause a lot of suffering to citizens and are detrimental to development.
President of the Malawi Law Society Patrick Mpaka said that currently there are only three financial crimes judges, therefore there is a need to provide the division with adequate funding, and necessary technical and institutional support for it to function effectively.
Since its establishment in November 2022, the division has received about 139 cases.
