Japan celebrates 60 years of development in Malawi

Japanese Embassy has commemorated 60 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malawi with a media tour in Lilongwe to some of its project sites.

Among the sites were Msunga Primary School, where school blocks, teachers’ houses and sanitary facilities were constructed, Kamuzu International Airport where the embassy has supported the development of the airport since 1978 and the Market Oriented Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion Project in Dowa.

Speaking on behalf of the Department of Civil Aviation, Director General, Mzondi Nyirenda, who is also the Chief Telecomunications Engineer for the department, expressed gratitude for the support from the government of Japan, which he said has transformed the airport into an effective forex earner over the past 60 years, created jobs and had technologically advanced the airport comparing to the neighbouring countries.
