Minister urges companies to invest in tourism sector

Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, has encouraged the corporate world to help grow the country’s tourism sector by investing in it, describing tourism as a critical component of government’s economic growth agenda.

She was speaking during the launch of Old Mutual’s Warm Heart in a Frame, photo frames which have been planted in several districts of the country for people to take pictures as part of the company’s 70th anniversary in the country.

Kamtukule said the business world needs to take advantage of the conducive environment which the government has created by making investments and pursuing joint ventures.

“Our job as government is not going to build hotels and all sort of infrastructures. We need the private sector to come in and partner the government. Together we have a responsibility of selling Malawi to the world,” she said.

Old Mutual’s Chief Financial Officer Vera Zulu said her company is set to do more developmental projects as part of celebrating the anniversary.
