ILLOVO bails out flood survivors in Nkhotakota

Amid the devastation caused by the rising water levels in Lake Malawi and subsequent displacement of families in Dwangwa, ILLOVO Sugar Malawi has donated 200 Metric tons of maize flour to those affected by the disaster.

The donation will bail out over 3,340 people currently sheltered in Nyamvuwu, Matiki, and Ngala camps who lost their homes, fields and source of livelihood from the month of February this year.

McLean Debwe, General Manager of ILLOVO Dwangwa, says the company is committed to support communities it operates in and that the maize flour is just part of the K220 million aid package that the company has put aside for the flood victims.

John Manda, Relief and Rehabilitation Officer for Nkhotakota District Council, has expressed gratitude to the company for consistently aiding the affected.

Atleast 7,800 people have been impacted by floods in Nkhotakota since February this year.
