FIRST LADY HAILS MUSLIM WORLD LEAGUE FOR PUMPING K8.5 BN FOR ORPHANS’ EDUCATION SUPPORT

First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has commended the Saudi Arabia-based – Muslim World League for its continued support to Malawi particularly in the area of orphan care and education.

Madam Chakwera made the remarks in Lilongwe during the launch of the 2023  Orphans Allowances Programme worth  K8.5 billion by the Muslim World League. The amount will serve 6000 orphans and needy students.

“Our gathering today to witness this launch of education support for orphans is a testament to the power of compassion, collaboration and a spirit of humanity. We appreciate because the Muslim World League’s commitment transcends beyond care for orphans but a partner in the provision of diverse needs of our communities,”  said Madam Chakwera.

She went on to call upon Malawians to emulate the commitment which the Muslim World League has demonstrated in the past 20 years.

“ Your support in the past twenty years has not only been limited to orphans and their welfare but relief and aid such as the support you rendered during the Covid 19 and interventions such as the eye operations,” said Madam  Chakwera.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director for the Muslim World League, Sheikh Walid El Saadi emphasized that the Muslim World League’s core objective is to help inspire hope and help shape the future of orphans and the vulnerable to enable them to become reliable citizens.

“ These children are our children, whether they are in Africa, Saudi Arabia or anywhere, so it is our duty to provide them with food, clothing, and education needs to shape their future so that they become reliable citizens,” said Sheikh Saadi.

In her remarks, Minister of Gender and Children Welfare, Jean Sendeza said currently, Malawi has 1.2 million orphans and concerted efforts are crucial in meeting their needs such as shelter, food, clothing, education and medical care.
