Democratic Progressive Party Secretary General, Peter Mukhito, says the party’s wins in the just-ended by-elections validate its leadership strategy of strengthening grassroots structures and are a testament of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s dynamic and able leadership.
The results of the by-elections have seen the DPP dominating the Local Government Elections with a win in Karonga, Mchinji, Dowa districts, among others, while securing one Parliamentary seat in Nkhotakota Liwalazi Constituency.
Mukhito stated that the outcome of the election speaks volumes that DPP has been working tirelessly to support and strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
He has since urged the newly elected Councillors and Member of Parliament to serve their constituents diligently, improve service delivery in their areas, while strengthening the party ahead of the big electoral showdown in 2030.
A Political Scientist, Mapopa Victor Lungu, said the fact that DPP has won in Dowa, Mchinji and Nkhotakota exudes confidence that electorates trust its sound and dynamic leadership while positioning itself as a national party.
”Since time immemorial, these districts have been MCP strongholds, but you can see that DPP has won a Parliamentary seat and local government seats. There is no doubt at all that this is a national party”. Said Lungu
Weighing in on his views on the win is a renowned political commentator, Richard Madziakayera, who says a win of this magnitude for the DPP validates a leadership strategy that focuses on strengthening grassroots structures while making inroads into enemy zones.
”It reinforces his efforts to run the DPP by enforcing discipline and boosting party popularity. The win legitimizes DPP’s focus on organizational renewal and it strengthens its position to steer the party in the right direction,” said Madziakayera.
Malawians on March 17th went to the polls to elect Ward Councillors and Members of Parliament in 9 Wards and 4 Constituencies respectively.
