CASH TRANSFER PROGRAMME RECEIVES K50 BN BOOST

Give Directly, an international organisation, is to provide Malawi with over K50 billion to go towards the Social Cash Transfer Programme.

International President of Give Directly, Rory Stewart, disclosed this after having an audience with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Stewart told MBC after the meeting with Dr Chakwera that the funding is part of a larger scaling-up to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme locally known as ‘Mtukula Pakhomo’ is touted by several Non-Governmental Organisations including UNICEF that beneficiary households increase overall measures of resilience, and have an increased ability to positively cope with shocks.

GiveDirectly is already in Malawi and other African countries, including Liberia.
