Ascent Soccer Academy has dominated the 27-member call-up list for the Malawi Under-20 Women’s National Football Team ahead of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup preliminary round qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.
The academy has contributed six players to the squad, namely defenders Maureen Keneth and Talandira Chinyamvula, midfielders Leticia Chinyamula and Victoria Mkwala, as well as strikers Fatima Lali and Mayamiko Mkandawire.
Kukoma Ntopwa Women are the second most, as they have contributed 5 players.
While FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Silver Strikers Ladies, and Civil Service Women have all contributed 3 players each.
Ekhaya Women and FACT have contributed 2 players. Mighty Wanderers Queens, Chitoliro Heroines and Mzuzu City Hammers Queens have all contributed a single player.
The squad is expected to enter camp in Blantyre on 26 January in preparation for their game against Guinea-Bissau in February.
In this squad, the team’s coach, Maggie Chombo, has recalled 18 players who were part of the squad that faced South Sudan in the second preliminary round of the U20 World Cup qualifiers played in September last year.
In those fixtures, Malawi won 2-0 at Juba on 23 September and played a 1-1 draw in the return leg to secure a 3-1 victory.
Malawi has never qualified for the tournament before.
Their first qualifier was in 2021 when they got demolished 8-1 on aggregate against Zambia (6-1 away and 2-1 at home).
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Poland from 5 to 27 September 2026.
