NBS makes K150BN profit

NBS Bank has reported a profit after tax of K150.42 billion for the year ended 31 December 2025, up from K99 billion in 2024, representing a 106.9% increase.

Gross loans and advances have also increased to K368 billion, while investments in government securities rose to K755 billion.

NBS Bank Board Chairperson Vizenge Kumwenda disclosed this at the NBS Bank Annual General Meeting in Blantyre.

Kumwenda said the results reflect the bank’s strong financial performance, sound governance and commitment to delivering sustainable value to shareholders.

Independent external auditors Grant Thornton have since identified expected credit losses (ECL) on loans, advances and government securities as the key audit matter in NBS Bank Plc’s 2025 financial statements.

Presenting an audit opinion, Gordon Tembo from Grant Thornton said the assessment involved evaluating loan classifications, changes in credit risk and forward-looking economic assumptions, as well as small changes in the estimates.

He said the auditors reviewed the bank’s internal controls, governance processes and impairment models before issuing an unqualified audit opinion, confirming that the financial statements present a true and fair view of the bank’s financial position.

Meanwhile, Minority Shareholders Association of Listed Companies Secretary General Frank Harawa commended the bank for its strong financial results and clean audit opinion.

Harawa also urged NBS Bank to strengthen its focus on growing the private sector loan book, saying lending to businesses remains critical to supporting economic growth.

NBS Bank Board has since proposed a total dividend of K23.00 per share, amounting to K66.94 billion for the 2025 financial year, more than double the K10.90 per share paid in 2024.
