Lilongwe is set to welcome its first amusement park as Kukuye Amusement Park officially opens on Sunday, September 7.
Owned by Ethiopian investor Weldeabe Hailu under a family shareholder company, the park promises to redefine entertainment, leisure, and tourism in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
Hailu told MBC that all rides and facilities have been installed and tested, with only final touches remaining before opening day.
“What remains now are just some final touches. Otherwise, everything has been installed and tested to perfection,” said Hailu.
The idea behind Kukuye Amusement Park came from recognising Lilongwe’s growing population of young families, youth, and tourists, and the lack of large-scale recreational facilities.
The vision was to create a world-class amusement park that not only provides fun and leisure but also fosters family bonding, boosts tourism, and supports community development, drawing inspiration from similar parks abroad.
General Services Director Elizabeth Nyanja said visitors can expect a safe, exciting, and memorable experience suitable for all ages.
“Patrons should anticipate a space where they can play and relax regardless of their age,” she said. “Among the attractions are the Ferris Wheel, Top Spin, UFO, Double Flying, and many more rides designed for both children and adults.”
The park also features clean, family-friendly facilities and professional service, setting a new standard for recreation in Malawi.
Nyanja also clarified misconceptions circulating on social media regarding ownership, emphasising that some people have been sharing Kukuye Amusement Park’s equipment photos and incorrectly claiming they belong to Napoleon Dzombe.
“He has his own park, but it is totally different from Kukuye Amusement Park equipment,” she said.
The opening of Kukuye Amusement Park is expected to draw families, youth, and tourists eager to experience a fresh standard of entertainment, fun, and leisure, making Lilongwe a hub for local and regional tourism.
