Go seek help, fertility a shared responsibility — Expert

Immediate past president of the Fertility Society of Ghana, Dr Edem Hiadzi, has singled out excessive consumption of alcohol as one of the contributing factors to infertility in men.

According to Dr Hiadzi, heavy drinking of alcohol can affect sperm production and eventually lead to infertility.

He made these remarks when he delivered a presentation on Male Infertility on the sidelines of the 11th edition of Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary, currently underway in Tanzania.

However, the Ghanaian doctor has advised couples to seek medical help if they are facing problems bearing a child after a year of regular sexual intercourse.

Infertility now affects one in six couples of reproductive age according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
