The 2023 Child Multi- Dimensional Poverty Report has revealed that nearly 70 percent of children in the country are multi-dimensionally poor, with children in rural areas bearing the brunt.
The report also shows that the Central Region has the highest population of multi-dimensionally poor children than other regions.
Presenting the report in Lilongwe, Twikaleghe Mwalwanda of the National Statistics Office said among others, children are considered multi-dimensionally poor if they are deprived of specific rights which the children were supposed to acces such as education, health, potable water, good sanitation and protection.
The 2023 Child Multi-dimensional Poverty Report was presented along with the Impacts of Shocks On Vulnerable Populations Report and the Cost of Covid-19 on Children In Malawi.
The event is being held under the theme “tackling multi-dimensional poverty and vulnerability faced by children in the context of multiple shocks in Malawi.”
