32 percent of Malawians die from NCD

Ministry of Health has expressed worry that 32 percent of Malawians suffering from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) die annually.

NCD acting Deputy Director at the Ministry, Hastings Chitizu Chiumia, made the disclosure during an interface with medical personnel from Zomba, Machinga, and Balaka Districts.

He said the ministry is working with stakeholders to ensure the trend is reversed.

The meeting was organised by the Malawi Network of Older Persons Organisation (MANEPO) and included representation from several elderly individuals from Zomba.

MANEPO Executive Director Andrew Kavala said the gathering aimed to appreciate how its NDCs project is helping the elderly to ensure they receive necessary attention to curb the vice.

Kavala said there is progress as people are now aware of the importance of protecting the rights of the elderly.

The 3-year project on NDCs being implemented in the three districts is being financed by the German Government.
