Second phase of voter registration begins

The second phase of the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) voter registration exercise has started in Nkhata Bay with a notable turnout of potential voters for the 2025 General Elections.

Peter Mukhula, MEC’s District Elections Officer for Nkhata Bay, expressed optimism about the start of the registration period, which is scheduled to run until November 22, 2024.

“All 186 centres were open at exactly 8:00 AM,” Mukhula confirmed.”All 186 centres were open at exactly 8:00AM.,” said Nkhula.

James Banda, an 18-year-old registrant at the Nkhata Bay ADMARC Registration Centre, shared his excitement about participating in his first election. Meanwhile, over 60 individuals had registered within the initial two hours at St Maria Goretti registration centre, indicating a promising pace for the exercise.

Over 60 potential voters at St Maria Gorretti registration centre were already registered within the first two hours.
