African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 has taken a bold step towards positioning Southern Africa at the forefront of innovation, inclusion, and global cooperation in sport, as its Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Mutoya, is in Rome, Italy, on a mission aimed at engaging with leading international partners in technology, research, and inclusive sport development.
Mutoya will hold a meeting with the Global Disability Innovation Hub, seeking collaboration on assistive technologies capable of transforming access to sport and recreation for persons with disabilities across the Region 5 member countries.
He will also hold talks with Timetronics on potential cooperation in the supply of sports equipment and digital technologies for timing and results management, an area critical to modern sport administration and event delivery.
During his visit, Mutoya will also hold discussions with Loughborough University, one of the world’s leading institutions in sports research, to explore collaboration in research partnerships and mobility exchange programmes with Region 5.
“If Africa is to lead in the future of sport, we must invest not only in athletes, but in innovation, technology, and inclusion. Partnerships like these help ensure that the next generation of African sports is more connected, more inclusive, and more innovative,” Mutoya said.
Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) acting Chief Executive Officer, Ivy Chinagwa, has lauded Mutoya’s trip, hinting that Malawi, as a member country of Region 5, will benefit from any agreements that would be sealed.
“Technical is at the centre of sport globally, and Region 5 has committed to keeping our members in line with the rest of the world,” Chinagwa said.
