PRISAM condemns school vandalism, urges police to name and arrest culprits

The Private Schools Association of Malawi (PRISAM) has condemned recent acts of vandalism at Michiru and Kings Private Secondary Schools and is calling on the Malawi Police Service to act swiftly against those involved.

The association has urged authorities to arrest the perpetrators and publish their identities to prevent them from being admitted to other private schools.

PRISAM President,  Ernest Kaonga, described the culprits as enemies of progress stressing that such conduct is criminal in nature and has no place within Malawi’s education system.

“No disciplined student can vandalise school property, regardless of any grievances,”  said Kaonga.

“Once the names are released, we will notify private schools to ensure they are not enrolled elsewhere,” said Kaonga.

Michiru Girls Secondary School was among the institutions affected and was partly destroyed by fire.

The incidents, which have resulted in damage worth millions of Kwacha, have heightened concerns over student discipline and the safeguarding of school infrastructure.

Kaonga further said the  call for decisive action comes as authorities intensify efforts to curb vandalism in both private and public learning institutions across the country.
