Police Officers urged to lead in child rights protection

Police officers have been urged to be at the forefront of protecting the rights of children.

Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Kainja made the remarks in Zomba during the opening of a three-day workshop for the law enforcers drawn from various police formations in the district.

Kainja, who is also Director of Community Policing and Police Units in the Malawi Police Service said the workshop will enhance the officers’ ability on how to respond to child-related abusive cases and provide awareness to communities on the protection of the rights of children.

She encouraged the participants to utilise the workshop to equip themselves with relevant knowledge so that they perform their duties diligently.

The workshop has been organised by the Malawi Police Service in conjunction with UNICEF.
