An NGO known as Phalombe District Forum has donated assorted items including a wheelchair to Reverend John Chilembwe Hospital in the district.
Speaking after the donation, the group’s chairperson, Wilfred Makupe, said they thought of giving the groceries to patients as part of cheering them up and showing appreciation to the community they were born and raised in.
A representative of the hospital’s administrator, Veronica Makondesa said the items donated will help address patients’ needs, as some have stayed at the hospital for a long time while lacking some groceries.
Makondesa further said the wheelchair will help improve mobility for patients at the hospital.
The items donated are worth approximately K1.6 million and the funds were solicited from group members, who are over 150.
