National Registration Bureau (NRB) in Chiradzulu District has described the first day of the birth registration exercise as impressive.
This comes as the NRB is set to register over 180,000 children in the district.
According to the Bureau’s Senior Assistant Registration Officer, Christina Chabwera, there was a high turnout of parents at the 97 registration centres, as early as 6 o’clock in the morning, when the initial opening time is 7:30 to 4 o’clock.
Chabwera said this shows that people are committed to registering their children.
She added that birth certificates are essential documents that help the government in planning purposes and they also protect children from being trafficked, among other reasons.
Chairperson of Mpama 2 Area Development Committee, Sangson Maganga, has hailed the initiative, promising to join forces with other ADCs in mobilising more parents to take part.
Apart from Chiradzulu, the exercise is also being conducted in Nkhatabay, Dowa, Zomba City and Zomba districts and will run from March 23 to April 1 2026.
