Newly appointed Puma Energy Malawi Managing Director Zwelithini Mlotshwa has revealed that Puma
filling stations will start retailing gas, stoves and cylinders this year, in their bid to support eco-friendly
energy provision and make gas cheaper for Malawian users.
The newly appointed MD outlined the vision during an interaction with business news editors from
different media houses in Blantyre.
Mlotshwa believes this will help Malawians have easy access to environmental friendly means of cooking
at a lower price.
“We will lead in engaging authorities for rebates and incentives so that the landing cost of gas is low
which will have ripple effects on the prices.
“Through different initiatives, we will also empower communities and enlighten them about benefits of
using gas and uprooting the myths that surround gas usage in the country,” Mlotshwa said.
During the engagement, the petroleum retailer also committed K90.5 million to the Phantom Aviation
Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing Malawi’s aviation sector.
The money will go towards the second edition of the airshow which is scheduled for the 26 October, 2024
at Lilongwe Airwing in the capital city.
“The Phantom Aviation Association has since 2002 played a leading role in shining a spotlight on the
aviation industry in Malawi. The aviation sector is critical for the country’s connectivity, economic
development and tourism,” he added.
Senior First Officer Lusekelo Mwenifumbo expressed gratitude to Puma Energy Malawi for the gesture,
indicating that it will go a long way inspiring children to scout careers in the aviation sector.
“The association works towards bridging the skills gap in the aviation sector by providing information
and resources to young people interested in pursuing aviation career.
“It is only through collaborating with our government agencies, the department of civil aviation, and now
Puma Energy that we are able to promote and grow the aviation industry in Malawi,” she said.
Zwelithini, who has over 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry having held several leadership
roles, took up the office of Puma Energy Malawi Managing Director in September this year.
