National Local Government Finance Committee Executive Director Kondwani Santhe has encouraged District Information Officers (DIOs) to take pole position in disseminating news about development initiatives taking place in their duty stations.
He was speaking at Mponela in Dowa during the start of a four day radio production training for the which has been supported by the Ministry of Local Government.
“The news out there is [meant] to promote transparency, accountability…but who has to provide that good narrative? It is you DIOs, they say knowledge is power,” he said.
He challenged the DIO to be tech-savy and help set-up social media pages and websites in the district councils.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation, acting Director of Information, Arthur Chipenda, said the meeting is not only significant to DIOs but to the entire country in promoting democracy and social development.
