MERA bans jerrycans again

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has banned the use of jerrycans and drums to buy fuel, a statement from MERA has confirmed.

In the statement, MERA states that any service station found selling petrol to customer using cans and drums will have their operating licences suspended.

MERA says the ban aims to support fuel importers’ efforts to restore the security of fuel supply.

The authority has also urged the public to report any instances of illegal fuel trading.
