Maranatha Academy offers global exposure to top MSCE students

Maranatha Academy has unveiled plans to sponsor an international educational trip for the top ten Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) students of 2025, regardless of the schools they attend.

Managing Director of Maranatha Academy, Ernest Kaonga, made the announcement during a  farewell ceremony for outgoing Form Four learners held in Blantyre.

The gesture, he said, is both a celebration of top achievers and an acknowledgement to government efforts to improve the quality of education in the country.

“We are arranging an international tour to Cabolabassa Dam in Mozambique for the top 10 MSCE performers from across Malawi not just Maranatha students. This is our way of honouring brilliance and inspiring ambition,” Kaonga declared, sparking cheers from the gathering.

As part of the same event, Maranatha also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sharda University of India to provide Open and Distance Learning (ODL) opportunities to Malawian students. The programme is expected to benefit those who may face financial or logistical barriers to attending traditional universities.

Kaonga said  that with Sharda University ranked among the top 150 globally, the collaboration will give Malawian students access to internationally recognised qualifications via affordable online platforms.

“This partnership offers timely solutions, especially for learners who miss out on local university admissions due to space limitations or financial constraints,” he said.

Sharda University’s country representative, Sydney Chiwengo,  described the agreement as a critical step toward increasing educational access in Africa. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to partnering with institutions like Maranatha to widen opportunities for young people across the continent.

In her remarks, Annette Kaonga of the Legal Aid Bureau, lauded  Maranatha for its forward-thinking approach to education. She said the academy’s initiatives go beyond classroom learning and directly contribute to building a better future for Malawi.

One of the graduating students, Gordon Lungu, spoke highly of his experience at Maranatha, saying the school had pushed him to excel academically and personally.

Kaonga pledged that Maranatha Academy will  continue  to be a pillar of discipline, achievement, and opportunity in Malawi’s education sector. Its commitment to rewarding merit and expanding access to global education affirms its role as a driving force in shaping the country’s academic future.
