President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to remain united as the country continues to implement various Cyclone Freddy recovery efforts.
Dr Chakwera made the remarks during the Cyclone Freddy Memorial Service at Mulanje Park Stadium.
The Malawi leader commended various individuals and organisations who are working with the government in its Cyclone Freddy recovery drive.
He says his government is committed to rebuilding infrastructure that was destroyed by the devastating cyclone last year.
Dr Chakwera said currently, there are bridges, school blocks and other infrastructure that the government has rebuilt and that efforts are underway to complete rebuilding the remaining structures.
The President also warned people to be vigilant against effects of climate change.
Meanwhile, United Nations agencies in Malawi have reaffirmed their commitment to work with the government in the rebuilding process.
Speaking on behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator, Paul Turnbull, who is the World Food Programme Malawi Director, pledged more support to Malawi and called for collective action to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
