The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has expressed satisfaction with the turnout of football fans during the first week of the league.
This is despite a rise in gate charges, which have been categorised into three grades.
Donnex Chilonga, SULOM’s Vice General Secretary, justified the grading as an alignment to the country’s current financial status.
During the first week of matches, a Grade A game between Bullets and Dedza Dynamos was the highest grossing match, totaling K28 million.
According to SULOM’s classification system, Grade A teams include FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, and Silver Strikers, with a gate fee set at K4000 for matches involving any of these teams.
Grade B teams, including Kamuzu Barracks, Bangwe All Stars, Civil Service United, Chitipa United, Dedza Dynamos, and Karonga United, will require fans to pay 3000 kwacha to attend their games.
Grade C teams, comprising MAFCO, Mighty Tigers, Moyale Barracks, Mzuzu City Hammers, FOMO FC, Baka City, and Creck Sporting Club, have a gate charge of K2000 per match.
