Ministry of Water and Sanitation, in collaboration with the Central Region Water Board (CRWB), has set a target of supplying over 14 million litres of water daily to communities within a 30-Kilometre radius of CRWB’s 22 sites in Dowa District, aiming to address the persistent challenges of accessing clean and safe water.
This was said during a tree-planting exercise at the CRWB Malata Borehole site in the district, where the ministry and the CRWB planted 2,000 trees to improve the water levels of the two boreholes at the site.
Chief Executive Officer for CRWB, John Makwenda, said they intend to plant over 70,000 trees this rainy season in the 22 sites.
“These trees will protect water catchment areas and ensure everlasting water supply for the district,” Makwenda said.
Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, saying the government has put initiatives to end Dowa’s challenges in accessing safe water.
