Government, through the Ministry of Industry, has begun rolling out the eTrade Readiness Action Plan 2025–2026.
This initiative is aimed at positioning Malawi as a digitally enabled trading economy and it was launched in March 2025.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) provided technical support as the plan outlines a series of priority actions, including strengthening digital boosting digital literacy, especially among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Ministry of Industry’s publicist, Patrick Botha, said one of the Plan’s central pillars is digital inclusion, focusing on empowering small-scale business owners with the skills to navigate the e-commerce space.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Small Scale Business Operators, Tenson Mulimbula, has commended the government for the initiative, while underscoring the need for civic education among operators on the safe use of the e-commerce space.
