Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, says digital registration of farmers and farms is key in ensuring meaningful commercialised agriculture as the data collected will help in proper resource allocation.
He said this in Dowa District during a sensitisation meeting for digital registration of farmers and geo-mapping of farm parcels, which seeks to collect and compile data on farmers and land in the country.
Kawale said the initiative aligns with the Agriculture Commercialisation (AGCOM), the government’s backbone for realisation of Malawi 2063 agenda of achieving a food and economically secure nation.
Vice Chancellor for Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, has since called for collective efforts in data management if the initiative is to succeed.
LUANAR, under its Centre for Agricultural Research and Development project, is expected to roll out the exercise across the country from July 01, 2024 with funding from the World Bank.
