Deputy High Commissioner of Zambia to Malawi, Maureen Simwemba, has called upon African countries to promote active participation of youth in politics which she says is essential for long-term peace, stability and development.
Simwemba made the remarks in Lilongwe during a graduation ceremony of young politicians from Malawi and Zambia who have completed a four week Programme for Young Politicians in Africa (PYPA).
Board chairperson of Centre for Young Leaders in Africa, Daniel Sichilongo, said he expects the young politicians to make a difference in their countries with the skills and knowledge they have gained.
One of the participants, Ramadhan Binali, said the programme has equipped him with essential leadership skills that will help to bring meaningful development in his area, being one of the aspiring leaders in Soche East Ward, Blantyre.
Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South East, Steven Baba Malondera, who is an alumni of the programme, has urged the young politicians to to put aside all political differences and ensure they are serving their countries well.
