President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is set to depart on 10 June 2024 for the Bahamas to participate in the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meeting and Afri-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum.
The meetings, to be held in Nassau the capital of the Bahamas, will run from 12 to 14 June. The President’s participation comes at the invitation and sponsorship of the Afreximbank.
Malawi is poised to benefit immensely from its participation at the meetings as it will garner more support and forge more partnerships in line with the Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) Strategy and the special economic zones and industrial parks initiative that President Chakwera launched recently.
After attending the Afreximbank meetings, President Chakwera will then proceed to Bürgenstock in Switzerland to attend the Global Peace Summit on the 15 and 16 June 2024.
Dr Chakwera has been invited by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd. It is expected that the meeting will provide a platform for world leaders to deliberate and agree on the Ukraine peace formula aimed at ending the conflict in Eastern Europe and the adverse effects the war has had on the global economy, including the surge in prices worldwide.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President will depart Kamuzu International Airport at 5 pm and is expected to return through the same airport on 18 June at 3:45 pm.
