Balaka Police launches manhunt for alleged reckless driver

Police in Balaka have launched a manhunt for Luka Dzombe, a minibus driver, for allegedly causing an accident due to speeding after his vehicle collided with a motorcycle, leading to the death of 47-year-old Albert Patrick Kalambo.

The accident happened along the Liwonde-Balaka M8 road in Balaka District.

Balaka Police Station spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha, says Kalambo died after sustaining fractures on his neck, right arm and leg and was pronounced dead at Balaka District Hospital.

“Traffic report indicates Dzombe was driving from the direction of Liwonde heading Balaka with some passengers on board. On arrival at Mpulula area, due to excessive speeding, the driver of the motor vehicle failed to keep to his nearside and collided head-on with the oncoming motorcycle,” M’bumpha said.

Kalambo hailed from Mwenekabwe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga District and was working as an Agriculture Extension Development Officer at Balaka District Agriculture Office.
