The Medical Students Association of Malawi (MSAM) has emphasised the importance of Asthma awareness campaigns in dispelling misconceptions surrounding the chronic lung disease.
People have made wild claims that asthma is caused by cold weather and that only remedy is herbal medicine, which experts dismiss.
Maria Mwale, National Officer for MSAM, has meanwhile urged health officials to ensure steady availability of Asthma medication and also spread educational messages, which she believes would stop patients from consuming wrong oral medications and incorrect use of inhalers.
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects both children and adults and in Malawi it is at a 5% prevalence rate.
