Parliament intervention boosts Ombudsman ruling compliance

Office of the Ombudsman has applauded the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament for its interventions in determinations and rulings by the Ombudsman, which has boosted compliance.

Ombudsman Grace Malera made the remarks during an interface in Lilongwe with the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament and Democracy Works Foundation.

Malera said since the amendment of the Ombudsman Act in 2023, the Ministry of Health has managed an 89% rate of compliance.

Malera, however, noted that there are still some ministries, departments and agencies that are lagging behind.

Regional Director for Democracy Works Foundation, Augustine Magolowondo, stressed the importance of Parliament’s role in oversight and the power the committee has in summoning and holding sectors accountable.

The Committee’s Chairperson, Peter Dimba, affirmed Parliament’s commitment to enforcing compliance.
