Actallliance launches El Niño Response in Lower Shire

A consortium of Christian development organizations, Actalliance, has initiated a six-month disaster response programme in Chikwawa and Nsanje.

The project aims to provide cash transfers to 800 households and distribute drought-tolerant crop seeds to 1,000 households.

During the launch event in Chikwawa, Melton Luhanga, the consortium’s board chairperson, emphasized the importance of the programme saying it wil make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable.

Olariano Dazimata, a beneficiary from Wizalamu Village, expressed gratitude, stating that the funds would significantly improve her family’s well-being.

Social Cash Transfer recipients will receive approximately K94,000 each, while other households will receive sorghum, millet, cassava cuttings and potato vines.
