Govt commends NCA-DCA for enhancing women empowerment, social justice

Norwegian Church Aid/DanChurch Aid (NCA-DCA) have launched a 2025-2029 joint country strategy (JCS) with focus on thematic areas of climate and environmental stewardship, economic development, food security, and fighting inequality and gender based violence in Malawi.

NCA-DCA Malawi Country Director Stefan Jansen said they will be working with various partners across the country to enhance community resilience, improve disaster risk management and contribute towards a just resilient and inclusive Malawian society for economic growth.

According to him, the strategy will further strengthen civil society actors and spaces to contribute to an equal, respectful, and inclusive society that will enable people to live healthy, dignified lives and to claim their rights.

Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi, Ingrid Marie Mikelsen described the strategy as a commitment towards supporting Malawian people and future generations through various interventions promoting gender equality, sexual reproductive health education and ensuring that women have access to justice and equal opportunities in economic life, among others aspects.

Deputy Minister of Gender Halima Daud has expressed government’s gratitude for the support and commitment that NCA-DCA have shown in advancing sustainable development and social justice in Malawi. Daud observed that NCA-DCA addresses key needs among Malawians and ensures that women and girls, including other vulnerable groups, are living a dignified life.

“The strategy aligns with our efforts to break down the barriers that women and girls face in accessing opportunities. As a government, we are committed to the principles of equality, social justice, and the protection of human rights,” says Daud.

In 2024, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera recognised NCA-DCA as the best civil society organisation for interventions in hard-to-reach areas in Malawi.
