CMC urges families to uphold Christian values

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s Central Malawi Conference has urged families in Malawi to model Christ-like behaviour, warning that unstable homes threaten both the church and national development.

Speaking in Lilongwe at the close of a week-long Family Life Lessons training at Nsewa SDA Church in Chinsapo, conference leader Pastor John Anderson Phiri said strong, principled families form the backbone of the church and society. He stressed that couples must “love truthfully, guard their unity, and avoid behaviours that fuel conflict,” describing marriage as an integral part of the church’s identity.

Pastor Phiri said church leaders were aware of the various challenges many families are facing, noting that the training was designed to help couples strengthen communication, practise self-control, and deepen their understanding of God’s love.

“Everyone needs to know themselves better and manage their actions so they are not easily drawn into temptations,”  said Pastor Phiri.

One of the participants, Elder Sumaili Nthungo, said the lessons had opened the eyes of many members who often underestimate the importance of harmony in the home. He added that demand for such training remained high, calling for more sessions to reach families hungry for guidance.

Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) doctrine considers the family as God’s core institution, designed to cultivate love, faith, and moral character, with His image reflected through a committed marriage between one man and one woman.
