Principal Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has granted bail to Democratic Progressive Party Vice President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata, on condition that he provides K1 million cash bond and avail two sureties each of K1 million cash bonds.
In addition, the court has ruled that Gangata should surrender all travel documents and report to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) offices in Lilongwe every fortnight.
Gangata, who is also owner of Master Security, was arrested on four counts namely falsifying MRA’s Tax Clearance Certificate, forgery, uttering false document and conducting transaction without tax clearance certificate.
However, he is denying the charges.
The crimes are suspected to have been committed between 2017 and 2018 as he allegedly wanted to meet requirements in a bidding process to secure a contract with the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
