Mponda to strengthen Bullets squad

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ new Coach, Peter Mponda, has pledged to sign more players for his team as it approaches the 2025 Football Season.

This follows reports that two of their top defenders, Gomezgani Chirwa and Nickson Nyasulu, are seeking opportunities elsewhere as their contracts near expiry. Additionally, midfielder Precious Phiri recently departed for Platinum Stars in Zimbabwe.

Chirwa is the team’s captain and Nyasulu was voted the club’s Player of the 2024 Season.

Mponda made the remarks on Monday after Bullets announced the signing of Chikumbutso Henderson from Mzuzu City Hammers on a 2-year deal.

“We have gaps in defence and that is why we looked around to sign him,” he said.

Nonetheless, the Coach revealed that he is casting his nets wider to enhance the team’s performance.

“We still need to look around and see players who can come and improve the team,” Mponda said.

Sports analyst, Dan Chemis, concurred with the gaffer but urged him to source some players from their reserves.

“Even though It will be a tall order for the players to fill in the boots of the players who are likely to leave the club,” Chemis said.

Chikumbutso Henderson, 29, who once played for Ngwanje FC, has become Mponda’s first signing since he replaced Calisto Pasuwa.

Henderson “I am ready”

He said he is ready to ‘handle the pressure that comes with playing for Bullets’.

“I am ready to work and I am urging Bullets bullets supporters to welcome me with open arms for me to improve from the player I was,” he said.

Since the transfer window opened, Mponda has been extending contract deals of some players at the club on two and three-year long deals.
