Parliamentary Committees impressed with progress of MACRA’s Connect a School Project

The Parliamentary Committees on Education and Media, Information, and Communications have expressed satisfaction with the progress of ICT laboratory construction under the MACRA Connect a School Project.

During a site visit to Ndirande Hill Secondary School in Blantyre, Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Ephraim Nayeja who is also legislator for Thyolo North, noted that although the construction at Ndirande Hill Secondary School is two months behind schedule, the progress remains satisfactory.

He highlighted some challenges, including delays in material supplies and instances of substandard materials that had to be returned to the supplier, but expressed optimism that the project would meet its December deadline.

Ndirande Hill Secondary School, which serves 1,216 students and operates on a double-shift system, faces resource limitations. The Headteacher, Wyson Phiri, said that the completion of the ICT lab would significantly enhance the school’s resources and learning environment.

This school is among the 75 schools included in the first phase of the Connect a School Project, which is being implemented by MACRA with funding from the Universal Service Fund.
