Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, has emphasized that there is no ring of truth to allegations that Capital Hill intends to sell Likoma Island.
Speaking on the island on Tuesday during a stakeholders Interface on the subject, Kamtukule stressed that the government has never had any plans of selling the Island.
She said interms of tourism development, there is a 20 year Tourism masterplan where 103 projects were identified in the country and includes integrated activities in Likoma such as the construction of a jetty, reconstruction and extension of the runway, construction of a hotel, among others.
The minister assured people that her ministry is not selling the island but actively looking for investors, both locally and internationally, who can enhance development in the country.
Senior Chief Mkumpha III said the coming in of the minister is a relief to the Islanders since people now have heard the right information.
One of the citizens, Patrick Chikoti, agreed with the chief.
“We have accepted that the government has no plans of selling the island at all cost, in the meeting it looks like everyone is satisfied and we are also enlightened by the same government that it has good plans of developing the Island,” said Chikoti.
