Law enforcers at Kanengo Police in Lilongwe have upped their efforts to combat crime, by among others, conducting crime prevention awareness sessions in various churches around their jurisdiction.
On Saturday, Kanengo Police officers held the sessions at Area 25 A and Chiuzimbi Seventh Day Adventist Churches, where Church elders committed to working closely with the Police in ensuring safety and security in the area.
Wilson Makulumiza Nkhoma, Church Elder at Chiuzimbi Seventh Day Adventist Church, emphasised the church’s role in crime prevention by, among others, supporting authorities in addressing potential threats and maintaining a safer environment for everyone.
The Station’s Victim Support Unit (VSU) Coordinator, Mwai Mgombe, assured congregants that Police is committed to ensuring safety and security in the area by using various mechanisms including intensified patrols.
Mgombe also warned the congregants from perpetrating Gender Based Violence (GBV), which she observed, results in injuries and sometimes loss of life.
She said they will continue with such awarenesses in churches and mosques as victims of crimes and criminals are found in these places.
The law enforcers have conducted similar security awareness sessions at Kalambo CCAP, St Anthony Catholic and Nsungwi CCAP churches.
