Reformed CDF to fast track MW Vision 2063 aspirations

By Austin Kachipeya

Government says the newly introduced 5-billion-kwacha Reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is the magic bullet needed to fast-track the aspirations of the Malawi Vision 2063.

Local Government Minister Ben Phiri said this after inspecting several multi-million-kwacha infrastructure projects currently underway in Lilongwe Rural East.

Minister Phiri toured the construction site of a 321-million-kwacha developmental hub, which includes a multipurpose hall, a solar-powered water reticulation system, and the Traditional Authority Namaguya office. The entire project is expected to be completed within 180 days.

The Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the Mitundu Police Unit. The 611-million-kwacha security project commenced on September 9th this year and is slated for completion in March next year.

Speaking after the inspection, Phiri emphasised that these projects will drastically transform and improve the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

Echoing the Minister’s sentiments, the Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Msinja North, Binton Kutsaira, highly commended the government for rolling out the Reformed CDF. Kutsaira noted that the initiative has massive capacity to unlock nationwide development.

The government maintains that focusing on such grassroots developmental projects remains central to realising the milestones set out in the Malawi Vision 2063 agenda.
