Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Simplex Chithyola Banda, says the government will continue implementing deliberate policies aimed at empowering the youth.
Chithyola Banda, who represented President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, made the remarks in Lilongwe during the launch of the second youth Manifesto 2025–2030, organised by the Youth Decide Campaign, a coalition of youth organisations. He said the government will make sure the youth are prioritised in its development agenda.
He said the government has lined up several activities aimed at empowering the youth, who form the largest percentage of the population in Malawi.
Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara, urged the youth to be active in supporting the government’s development agenda.
She said the youth must avoid being used by politicians during the election period. According to Gotani Hara, the newly launched manifesto will help guide political parties in their engagement with youths.
Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda, who was part of the panel discussion during the summit, assured the youth that the Judiciary will expedite various cases involving the youth.
Mwandida Theu, Youth Coordinator for the Youth Decide Campaign, said the manifesto has been aligned to the 2063 agenda and there is a great need for all political parties in the country to endorse the manifesto.
