Trucker dies in his sleep

A 45-year-old truck driver, Ronex Chizumila, has passed away while sleeping in his truck on Sunday night at Jenda in Mzimba District.

Macfarlen Mseteka, the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station, says the deceased worked as a trucker for Ntolen Nhlane, a businessman around the area and used to sleep in the truck because he had not yet found a place to stay in and had been with the company for two months.

According to Mseteka, the police were alerted by Nhlane when the deceased’s phone went unanswered after his return from Chitipa where he had gone to visit his family.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of death was natural, as the deceased had a history of high blood pressure. Meanwhile, the body has been sent to Mzuzu Central Hospital for a full postmortem examination,” said Mseteka.

Chizumila was from Ishalikira Village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia, Chitipa District.
