Head of Policy and Communication for Water Aid, Chandiwira Chisi, has challenged the media in the country to report more on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) issues.
He was speaking at Mponela in Dowa District during a Water and Sanitation reporting workshop.
“We have neglected issues of WASH for a long time. We have not reported much on this….We want you to to write stories that have impact. We know that the media is a strategic partner for WASH stakeholders. We want you to write stories that would move policy and decision makers to take action,” said Chisi.
Chairperson for WASH Media Forum, Mecklina Chirwa, asked for more support to ensure effective media reporting on WASH.
“The biggest challenge the media have is support towards coverage as well as capacity building on issues to do with water. This partnership with Water Aid is therefore key to addressing the challenges,” she said.
