Department of Arts and Culture in the Ministry of Local Government is finalizing development of regulations for the establishment and operationalization of the National Arts and Heritage Promotion Fund.
Confirming the development, Deputy Director of Arts in the Ministry, McDonald Maluwaya, emphasized the importance of stakeholder input, citing consultations that were conducted to ensure the regulations reflect the needs of the artistic community.
“The National Arts and Heritage Promotion Fund is a crucial tool for mobilizing and disbursing resources for the development and promotion of creative and cultural industries,” he said.
It is envisaged that the Fund would provide a sustainable source of funding for artists, cultural projects and initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting Malawi’s unique cultural identity.
It is being carried out in collaboration with the National Commission for UNESCO and with technical support from UNESCO-Aschberg.
The establishment of the National Arts and Heritage Promotion Fund aligns with the National Arts and Heritage Council Bill, currently awaiting parliamentary approval.
