MCP vows to boost women’s political participation and empowerment

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing women’s participation in politics, ensuring their representation at all levels.

Newly elected First Deputy President Catherine Gotani Hara said this at a rally in Rumphi, where she said women’s empowerment is crucial for achieving the 50-50 campaign and other development initiatives.

Gotani Hara also urged support for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s development agenda, citing progress in economic balance, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

Regional Chairman for North North, Kezzie Msukwa, said the party has respect for democratic values and pointed out that its reputation is attracting members from other parties.

Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central, McDowel Chidumba Mkandawire, outlined the party’s strategies for youth empowerment, including sports and skills development.

During the rally, 12 people defected from other political parties, including DPP, UTM, and AFORD.

The ceremony featured the launch of the K4 Million Chidumba Trophy, with Rumphi Select defeating Kawaza Football Club by 2 goals to 1.
