Kyungu urges transparency and accountability among duty bearers

Paramount Chief Kyungu for Chitipa and Karonga has emphasised the need for transparency and accountability among duty bearers to avoid corruption in the country.

The Paramount Chief said this after the Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Heritage presented a report to the Chief’s Council on the cultural festival that the heritage hosted in November at  Mbande hill in Karonga district.

Traditional leaders from the two districts convened at Paramount Chief Kyungu’s palace in Karonga to review the 2024 Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Festival.

Paramount Chief Kyungu expressed satisfaction with the report.

General Secretary for Karonga Chitipa Cultural Heritage, Andongolela Mwangupuli, said the meeting was crucial as it gave a platform to discuss challenges and successes of the festival and map the way forward.

The report revealed that the festival raised K64 million, surpassing the initial budget of K50 million.
