MBC DONATES TO CYCLONE SURVIVORS, COUNCIL PLANS RESETTLEMENT

Chiradzulu District Council says in collaboration with chiefs it has identified a new area in which survivors of Cyclone Freddy from Mtauchira Village will be resettled as a safety measure.

Mtauchira Village which is on the foot of a hill in the area of Traditional Authority Likoswe was among the hardest hit by Cyclone Freddy as the entire village was buried by the mudslide killing 16 people in the process while the other ten are still missing.

District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere, made the remarks when Malawi Broadcasting Corporation employees visited Lisawo Evacuation Camp to donate relief items.

This is the fourth time MBC has donated to people who have been displaced by Cyclone Freddy.

In his remarks, the Public Relations and Customer Affairs Manager of MBC, Chisomo Mwamadi, said the corporation will continue with the mobilization of resources to assist people who were displaced by Cyclone Freddy.
